As you may have already noticed, Matt and I are taking a few weeks off due to vacations. I was out at the beach last week and Matt’s band is on tour the next 2 weeks. So, if you’re in the Charlotte NC, Nashville TN, Lawrence KS, Chicago IL, Northampton MA, Cambridge MA, New York, or Washington DC area, go check them out.
We’ll be back with new episodes towards the end of August. Thanks!

We taped KTD 32 last week but haven’t gotten it ready for download yet. Matt is on vacation this week in California. So, we’ll get the episode online as soon as possible. Sorry for the delay!

Network Administrators get all kinds of shwag from vendors around the world, to convince us to use their products. Our listeners get tons of Microsoft crap like towels, glow balls (for when you’re up in the club), light sabers, guns, knives, whores, etc. But better than any of these, what has officially convinced me to never use Microsoft Vista (at least for the year of 2008), is this rad 1980-something RED CORVETTE that reads “Test Drive Vista Today!” on the side of the packaging. It’s not a real car though. If it was, I’d buy a copy of Vista. It’s something I can roll around on my desk when I feel a sudden urge to return to my womb. See the picture below. I mean what the F, Microsoft? Why me? I’m a big boy now.

Am I the only person that thinks this logo looks cool? We need to know - because I think it’s amazing. I also think Chris has no sense of contemporary style! So look at it and be honest… who is right?

Matt and I have been doing Kill The Desktop for quite awhile now. Our first episode was published on July 9, 2007. We’ve come a long way since that time. The audio has gotten so much better, it’s hard to describe. You just have to go back and listen to it. It was awful! We’re so comfortable with being in front of the microphone now. In the beginning we probably spent more time doing takes than taping actual content. These days, it’s rare that we have to do any editing of the show in post-production.
Something we don’t talk a lot about on the show is our numbers. Currently, we see about 1,500 unique downloads of Kill The Desktop on a monthly basis. That’s amazing! We started with nothing. We had a few friends follow the show and that was about it. We’ve never paid to advertise, or have ever really had formal advertising. Word of mouth is what has helped us grow. So over the last 9 months we’ve gone from a handful of unique downloads to 1,500 every month. We couldn’t be happier with the progression we’ve seen over these last 9 months.
We’re loving the interaction ustream.tv has provided and will definitely continue to use it moving forward. We want to ask you, our listeners, how we can improve the show. What should we continue to do? What should we change? Our feedback from you is what makes the show what it is today. We want to continue that.
We also want to continue to grow. If you like the show, tell your friends about it! If you have a blog, post about us! We’d greatly appreciate the “spreading of the word” about Kill The Desktop. So please, if you promote us, tell us about it! After all, that’s how we’ve grown since day 1.
Thanks for listening.

I’ve been using Twitter pretty regularly over the last week or so. Matt has been a hater but I’m hoping to convert him as well. By the way, our next episode of Kill The Desktop will be taped tomorrow at lunch. Any topic suggestions?

I didn’t know there’s a National Texting Championship, until I came across this article - a 13 year old girl took the prize of $25,000 for texting this phrase:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocios! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you’ll always sound precocious.
She texted that in 42 seconds.
- I could totally beat that on my iPhone.
- Is this what the world is coming too?

… and the sound quality was awful! Matt picked up a new mixer on Wednesday that he wanted to use for KTD 19. We went through the normal pre-show routine, checked some quick audio we captured, and everything was ready to rock. Matt, Kevin, and myself had a kick ass show in the books about an hour later. The next day I get a call from Matt saying we need to re-tape the entire show because the sound quality was so poor. So, instead of a fresh new episode of Kill The Desktop, I’m posting this. I know, I know… we suck. We’ll be re-taping the show tomorrow and will have it posted before you know it!
As for KTD 20, we’ll be chatting about Google Android. We’re both iPhone fanboys, as everyone knows, but I think you’ll be surprised to hear our views on this new platform. Stay tuned, we have some great content coming up in the following weeks!

As you’ve noticed, we’ve decided to use Wordpress to power our website now. This will make it so much easier for us to post episodes, blog about technology things, and get some feedback in the comments.
So about those episodes… Matt’s hard drive failure has made it difficult for him to edit Episode 14, which is a preview to Leopard. We’ll have it up soon, I promise. Hopefully by the end of the weekend.
In other news, we had planned to tape Episode 15, a review of Leopard, this week. Due to my 9 month pregnant wife, my schedule has been all over the place and we just haven’t had the time to do it yet.
Sorry about the last 2 weeks! We love doing the show and will deliver some awesome material soon and on a regular basis again as soon as my son is born! Thanks for supporting us and listening to the show!
